General Santos City High School


HISTORY
                  The establishment of multimillion companies in calumpang such as DOLE Philippines, Sta Monica Canning Corporation and other fishing and canning firms brought about an exodus of people to the area. The rapid increase in population magnifies the number of high school age students thus, former Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Mrs. Leonor F. Peñalosa and the late Mayor Antonio C. Acharon realized the need to put up a public secondary school in the area, commencing the establishment of GENERAL SANTOS CITY HIGH SCHOOL which caters teh educational need of the new and flourishing committee.

                        This institution had started its modest beginning in July 1980 with the passage of a resolution by the Sangguniang Panglungsod and subseuently by the virtue of Republic Act 6642. Mr. Jacobino C. Java was then the first administrator to 117 first year students and 6 teachers.

                         In five years, the school's population continued to increase in number under the administration of Mr. Ruben Aquino (1983-1984) and Mrs. Vivenia Caña (1984-1986). In 1986, a dynamic leader evolve in the person of Mrs. Cristina N. Mari who made significant academic and infrastructure developments, giving the school adistinguish reputation of the DIVISION LEADER SCHOOL.

                          The retirement of Mrs. Cristina N. Mari in the year 2000 paved back the way for Mrs. Estrella C. Lariosa (then the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent) as the Officer Incharge of this school.

                           The headship of General Santos City High School was formaly given to Mrs. Veronica Punsalan in the yeaar 2001. Since then remarkable changes took place in the academe, sports, and in the arts. In school year 2003-2004 the school was awarded a 3.75 million pesos multipupose gymnasium donated by the Taiwanese philanthropists in partnership with the Local Government under the leadership of the Hon. City Mayor Pedro B. Acharon Jr.

                            In the shool year 2005-2006, Mrs. Veronica Punsalan (2001-2006) had her vacation leave, Mr. Isagani S. Dela Cruz, Master Teacher in Mathematic, serve as the Officer In-Charge until his disignation as the Assistants Schools Superintendent in Sarangani in desame year. Mrs. Gilda A. Orendain, Head Teacher II, continued the task from September 16,2005 until April 15, 2006. During her time, 4 teachers were sent as scholars in Manila and Bukidnon.

                             The school year 2006-2007 ushered new Officer In-Charge in the person of Mr. Angelito C. Llanos. His administration streamlined significant educational advancement in the field of Information and Communication Technology as the school became the REGIONAL ICT CENTER with Project ALERT as the flagship banner. Shorlty after the recognition and the integration of ICT program. This facilities include the digitally-equipped and Audio-Visual room (the first in the history of all public secondary schools in Region XII), School Main Marker, Covered Pathways and the Cyber-Ed cneter which was constructed through the collaborative efforts of the PTCA, school administration and the community.

                             Since its birth in 1980, General Santos City indeed has lived up its worth as the PREMIER public school in the city.  (
